Coloring page story
In the wall of a warm, cozy house, lived a tiny mouse named Pip. From his little mouse-hole, he could smell the most wonderful smells: spicy gingerbread, sweet hot chocolate, and the fresh, piney scent of a giant Christmas tree.
Pip’s biggest wish was to see the top of that tree. He had seen the bottom part, with its sturdy trunk like a tree of his own, but he heard the family talk about the very top. "The star is shining so brightly tonight!" they would say.
Pip was a very small mouse, and the tree was a very big tree.
On Christmas Eve, when the house was quiet and dark, Pip tiptoed out. The tree was even more magical at night. Coloured lights blinked like sleepy eyes—red, blue, green, and gold. He looked up, up, up. The star was so far away, like a real star that had fallen from the sky to rest on the treetop.
"Oh, I'll never get up there," he squeaked sadly.
Just then, he saw it. A long, shiny red ribbon had been left dangling from a branch, its end resting right on the floor. It was a perfect mouse-sized ladder!
With a brave little heart, Pip began to climb. Paw over paw, he scurried up the silky ribbon. He passed a shiny blue ball that showed his funny, whiskered face. He scurried past a little wooden snowman who seemed to smile at him. Higher and higher he went, until at last, he was on the very top branch, right next to the beautiful, glowing star.
It was warmer than he had imagined and pulsed with a gentle light. From here, Pip could see the whole room, with the sleeping cat curled on the rug and the stockings hanging by the fireplace. He felt like the king of the castle.
He stayed for just a moment, his tiny heart full of sparkle and light. Then, he carefully scurried back down the ribbon and tiptoed to his hole, ready to dream of his magical journey to the Christmas star.
