Coloring page story

It was painting day! Omar loved the colors, but he did not love getting messy. He carefully dipped his brush in the yellow paint. Dab, dab, dab. He made a perfect, neat sun. But then, his elbow bumped the pot of blue paint! SPLOOSH! Blue paint went all over his yellow sun and onto his hands. "Oh no!" cried Omar. "A mess!" Omar looked at his blue, painty hands. Then he looked at the blue sploosh on his yellow sun. It didn't look like a mess anymore. The yellow and blue had mixed together. It looked... green! "Wow," he whispered. He had made a new color. He pressed his green, painty hand onto the paper. It looked like a frog! He made five green froggy handprints. It was the best, messiest painting ever.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The doodle style is very forgiving and approachable for 3-5 year olds. The large handprint shapes are easy to color, and the theme of messy play is relatable and fun. It encourages a positive view of experimentation, a key part of kindergarten learning.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Oh look, Omar made a happy mess! He discovered he could make froggy handprints. Can you color in his handprints? Maybe you can make each one a different color of the rainbow! Don't forget to give Omar a colorful shirt, maybe with some fun paint splats on it!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print this page on thicker paper or light cardstock, as your child might be inspired to try finger painting on it after coloring! A sturdier page will hold up better to more enthusiastic art-making that this kindergarten theme might inspire.

Recommended Tools

Washable finger paints! After or instead of coloring, children can use finger paints to make their own handprints within the outlines. For a cleaner option, dot markers are fantastic for filling in the handprint shapes with big, satisfying circles of color.
