Gus the Hedgehog had a grumpy, prickly heart. Whenever anyone came near, he would roll into a tight ball. "Go away!" his prickles said.
Suki the Squirrel was not afraid. She saw that Gus wasn't moving. She rolled a yummy red berry toward him. Gus didn't unroll. Suki started to sing a soft, quiet song. Gus peeked out with one little eye.
"Are you grumpy, Gus?" Suki whispered.
Gus unrolled just a little bit more. "My heart isn't grumpy," he squeaked. "My heart is just... stuck."
