Coloring page story

Leo was lying very still in the grass. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. What was that sound? He put his hand on his chest. He could feel it! A little drum was inside him.

"Mommy," he asked. "What's the drum in my chest?"

"That's your heart, sweetie," she said. "It's a special muscle that pumps to keep you strong and playful."

Leo giggled. He ran over to his dog, Barnaby. He put his ear on Barnaby’s fuzzy side. Thump-thump-thump-thump. Barnaby’s heart-drum was much faster! He put his ear on the big oak tree. He heard… nothing.

Unexpected Twist: Then, he put his ear on his Grandpa’s tummy right after lunch. He didn't hear a heart-drum. He heard a gurgle-gurgle-rumble! Leo laughed. "Grandpa! You have a tummy-drum, not a heart-drum!"

Interactive Element: Put your hand on your chest. Can you feel your heart-drum? Let’s jump up and down five times and feel it again. Is it faster?

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The use of round, soft shapes is visually soothing and safe for children aged 3-5. The characters are simple and their emotions (curiosity and amusement) are easy to read. The concept of exploring sounds in the body is a playful introduction to science that aligns with a preschooler's natural curiosity about the world and themselves.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Let's color this funny scene! What color will you make Grandpa's big, comfy chair? You can give Leo a colorful shirt. Grandpa is laughing because his tummy is making funny noises, not a *thump-thump* like a heart. Let's use warm, happy colors to show the love between Leo and his Grandpa.

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print on a smooth paper surface to make coloring with crayons easy and satisfying. This will help your little one fill in the large areas like Grandpa's chair and the floor evenly. A clean print helps focus on the charming interaction at the heart of the picture.

Recommended Tools

Crayons are wonderful for this page, as their waxy texture is fun for filling in the large, simple shapes. For a different effect, try watercolor paints! The bold outlines will help keep the colors from mixing too much. This activity is all about exploring, just like Leo!
