Coloring page story

Wally the Wave lived in the big, blue ocean. All the other waves loved to race to the shore and yell "CRASH!" as they splashed on the sand. But Wally was scared. The shore looked so... sandy.

He would go halfway and then get shy and slide back into the sea. "Come on, Wally!" shouted a big wave. "The sand is warm! The pebbles want to say hello!"

Wally took a deep breath. He saw a little girl waiting on the shore, dipping her toes in. She looked a little bit scared, too.

Twist: Wally realized he didn't have to be a big, loud, crashing wave. He could be a small, gentle wave. He rolled slowly to the shore and went fssssshhh, gently tickling the little girl's toes. She giggled! He wasn't a crashing wave; he was a tickle-wave, and that was the best kind of wave to be.

Interactive Element: Let's make a wave sound. Start quiet... shhhh... and get a little louder... shhhh-SHHHH!

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The theme of a gentle wave is calming and non-intimidating for children 3-5. The large, flowing shape of the wave and the distinct shapes of the seashells are easy to identify and color. This outline-only format helps them practice control within a defined but simple space, reflecting a peaceful July day at the beach.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Let's go to the beach! Here is Wally the Wave. He is a happy, gentle wave. You can color him with all your favorite shades of blue and green. The foamy bubbles can be white or a very light blue. Down here is the warm sand. What color is sand? Maybe a yellow or a soft brown. And you can make the little seashell outlines any color you wish! Have fun coloring this splashy picture!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Printing on light blue paper can be a fun twist, giving an instant 'ocean' feel to the page. Make sure the printer's black ink cartridge is full to ensure the outline strokes are dark and crisp against the blue or white background, making it easy for kids to see the lines.

Recommended Tools

Watercolor paints would be perfect for this page, allowing children to blend blues for the wave in a watery style. If using watercolors, be sure to print on heavy cardstock. For a less messy option, watercolor brush pens or regular washable markers work great.
