Coloring page story

Carl the caterpillar was hot. The July sun was very, very warm. He crawled on a big green leaf. "I'm too hot," he grumbled. "This leaf is hot. The ground is hot. I am a hot, grumpy caterpillar."

He saw a bee fly by. Bzzzz! "You look cool," grumbled Carl. He saw a bird take a bath in a puddle. Splash! "You look cool, too."

He was about to give up and be grumpy forever when he felt a tiny shadow. He looked up. A little ant was holding a flower petal over his head like a parasol!

Twist: "Hello," said the ant. "My mom says sharing shade is like sharing a smile." Carl wasn't grumpy anymore. He was... cool. And he had a new friend. They sat together under the petal-parasol, watching the warm July day go by.

Interactive Element: Let's ask a grown-up: Is there something small we can share with a friend to make them feel better?

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The design's use of simple, recognizable shapes (circles for the caterpillar, ovals for the ant) makes it very accessible for ages 3-5. The large, open coloring areas of the leaf and petal-parasol don't require precise motor skills. The sweet, clear story of friendship in a July setting is easy for young children to understand and emotionally connect with.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Oh look, Carl the caterpillar has a new friend! Can you color Carl? You can make each circle on his body a different color! The little ant is being so kind. What color will you make the ant? And see the big flower petal they are using for shade? That can be your favorite color. Don't forget the big green leaf they are sitting on. Have fun telling this happy story with your crayons!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print on matte photo paper or cardstock to give the page a quality feel. This also helps prevent colors from smudging, which is great for little hands that are still learning to control their movements. Ensure the print settings are on 'best' to get solid, unbroken black outline strokes.

Recommended Tools

Twistable colored pencils are fantastic as they don't require sharpening and allow for more detail than a crayon, but are still sturdy. Crayons are a classic, safe choice. Encourage your child to talk about the story of sharing as they color this July scene.
