Coloring page story

Coral the mermaid had a necklace made of five perfect, shiny pearls. One, two, three, four, five. She loved to count them.

One day, swish, swoosh! she did a big, loopy somersault. Plink! One of her pearls came loose and fell, down, down, down into the soft sand. "Oh no!" whispered Coral.

She looked everywhere. Was it behind the rock? No. Was it under the seaweed? No.

Just then, a friendly crab with big, gentle claws scuttled by. "What's wrong?" he clicked.

"I lost my pearl!" said Coral.

The crab used his big claw to scoop up some sand. And there it was! The shiny pearl! Coral clapped her hands. "Thank you, Mr. Crab!" she said, putting her pearl safely back on her necklace.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The exaggerated happy expressions are easy for young children to read and understand, supporting emotional development. The story of finding a lost item with a friend's help is a simple, positive concept for this age. The large, distinct shapes of the mermaid, crab, and pearl are perfect for unpracticed hands to color.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Wow, the crab found Coral's lost pearl! Let's make this a happy picture. You can give Coral a lovely colored tail to show how happy she is. What color is her pearl necklace? You can make each pearl a different color if you like! The friendly crab can be a bright red or a happy orange. You have lots of space to color the sandy floor and the big blue ocean around them.

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print this page in 'portrait' orientation. Using a slightly thicker paper, like 24 lb or higher, will give a quality feel and make the finished artwork feel special. Ensure your printer is not set to 'eco mode' to get the boldest black lines for your mermaid coloring experience.

Recommended Tools

Large, triangular crayons can promote a good tripod grip. For the pearl, a single drop of glitter glue (with supervision) after coloring could add a fun, tactile element. Washable markers are also a great choice for their bold, satisfying colors.
