Coral the mermaid had a necklace made of five perfect, shiny pearls. One, two, three, four, five. She loved to count them.
One day, swish, swoosh! she did a big, loopy somersault. Plink! One of her pearls came loose and fell, down, down, down into the soft sand. "Oh no!" whispered Coral.
She looked everywhere. Was it behind the rock? No. Was it under the seaweed? No.
Just then, a friendly crab with big, gentle claws scuttled by. "What's wrong?" he clicked.
"I lost my pearl!" said Coral.
The crab used his big claw to scoop up some sand. And there it was! The shiny pearl! Coral clapped her hands. "Thank you, Mr. Crab!" she said, putting her pearl safely back on her necklace.
