Coloring page story

A big gust of wind swept down the street. WHOOSH! It blew out the candle inside of Patches, the littlest Jack-O'-Lantern on the railing. Suddenly, his face was dark. He couldn't see the children, and they couldn't see his cheerful face.

He felt very sad and lonely in the dark. A little boy dressed as a superhero saw him. "Oh no! That little pumpkin's light went out!" he said to his mom.

The mom took out a long lighter. She carefully reached inside Patches and—click, FWOOM!—his light was back! It flickered, stronger and brighter than before. "There you go, little guy," she said. Patches glowed with happiness, feeling warm and bright once more, all thanks to a kind, superhero helper.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The popular and empowering theme of superheroes is very engaging for 3-5 year olds. The clear, positive narrative of helping someone in need is an excellent social-emotional lesson. The distinct figures (hand, pumpkin, child) are easy to identify and color, reinforcing the story.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Oh no, Patches' light went out, but a superhero came to help! Let's color the little superhero's cape a bright, brave color, like red or blue! Now that Patches is happy again, you can give him a bright orange color and a super bright yellow light inside. You can choose any color you like for the kind grown-up's sweater sleeve. Hooray for helpers!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Printing on slightly thicker paper can make the colors of the superhero costume look more vibrant. Use a 'fit to page' setting to ensure the entire sweet scene prints correctly. This Jack-O'-Lantern page is perfect for talking about who our real-life heroes are.

Recommended Tools

Markers will make the superhero costume and the Jack-O'-Lantern's glow look bold and powerful. Crayons are great for the background elements like the railing and the night sky. Giving your little artist choices helps them feel like a hero, too!
