Coloring page story

Gus the Gourd had a secret. He was a brand-new Jack-O'-Lantern with a very brave, spooky face, but he was a little bit afraid of the dark. The sun went down, and the shadows grew long and wiggly. Gus squeezed his triangle eyes shut.

"Don't be scared," whispered a tiny voice. It was a firefly, blinking on his stem. "But it's so dark!" Gus whispered back. Just then, the back door opened. A kind hand placed a little candle inside Gus. Flicker, flicker, POP! A warm, golden light filled him up from the inside out. He wasn't a dark pumpkin anymore; he was a light! He could see the crunchy leaves and the friendly porch swing. The dark wasn't scary when you had your own special glow.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The highly expressive face on the Jack-O'-Lantern helps children aged 3-5 identify and understand emotions like fear and happiness. The simple shapes and clear focal points (pumpkin, firefly) are easy for them to recognize and color, improving focus and hand-eye coordination.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Look at Gus! He isn't scared anymore because he has a light. Can you color Gus with a warm orange? And let's make his light shine bright with a yellow or golden crayon. Don't forget his tiny friend, the firefly! You can give its little light a bright yellow color, too. The crunchy leaves on the ground would look great in red, brown, and orange!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

To create a 'nighttime' feel, you can print this page on light blue or gray paper. This makes the bright colors you add for the Jack-O'-Lantern and firefly pop even more! Use standard A4 or Letter paper size for easy printing.

Recommended Tools

Washable markers will make the glowing parts of the picture look very bright. For the background, colored pencils are great for a softer 'night sky' look. Always make sure marker caps are put back on so they don't dry out!
