Coloring page story

It was a hot, hot day. The sun was a big yellow ball in the sky. All the animals were thirsty. But there was only one big, wonderful, muddy puddle left, and Gus the elephant was sitting right in it! SPLISH! SPLASH!

A little zebra came near. "Oh," he sighed. "Gus has the whole puddle." A little monkey chattered, "He's too big! He won't share."

Gus heard them. He looked at the hot, tired animals. He didn't want the puddle all to himself. He stood up, took a big trunkful of water, and SHHHHOWERED it all over his friends! "Puddle party!" he trumpeted.

Twist: The other animals thought the big elephant was being selfish, but he was actually planning a fun surprise for everyone. They all jumped in, splashing and laughing together in the cool, squishy mud.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

This scene is perfect for 3-5 year olds. The 'Cute Animal Cartoon' style with its clear, friendly characters is appealing and non-intimidating. The large, distinct shapes of the elephant, zebra, monkey, and even the water droplets are easy for small hands to navigate with crayons or markers, building confidence in their artistic skills.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Wow, look at this fun puddle party! Gus the elephant is sharing his water. What color will your elephant be? You can make the water drops bright blue! The little zebra needs some stripes—you can make them black, or maybe rainbow stripes for fun! And don't forget the cheeky monkey. Can you make the sun a happy, bright yellow? Let's make this picture super colorful!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print on standard letter-sized paper. If using markers, place a spare sheet of paper underneath to catch any bleed-through. Setting your printer to a 'draft' black and white mode is fine for crayon use, but 'best' quality will make the elephant's outlines pop for marker coloring.

Recommended Tools

Washable markers are fantastic for the water drops to make them bold and bright. Crayons are excellent for the larger areas like the animals' bodies. Finger paints could also be a fun, tactile way to color the muddy puddle for a multi-sensory experience!
