Coloring page story

Zuzu the zebra woke up one morning and couldn't find her laugh. She tried to think of something funny. A monkey slipping on a banana peel! Nope. Her dad telling a silly joke! Nothing. Her laugh was gone. Sniffle, sniffle.

Her best friend, Eli the elephant, saw her sad face. "What's wrong, Zuzu?" he asked. "I've lost my laugh," she whispered. Eli thought for a moment. "I will help you find it," he said gently.

First, Eli made a funny face, crossing his eyes and flapping his big ears. Flap, flap! Zuzu just sighed. Then, he sucked up water in his trunk and made a silly fountain. Pshhhhhh! Zuzu smiled a tiny bit, but still no laugh. Finally, Eli came close, wrapped his soft trunk around her in a big, warm hug, and just stayed there. It felt so safe and cozy.

Twist: Zuzu didn't need something funny, she just needed a hug from a friend. She felt so loved that a little giggle escaped. Then a bigger one. Soon, she was laughing her big, happy zebra laugh! Hee-haw-hee! She had found it.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The soft, round shapes are visually soothing and safe for the 3-5 age group. The image clearly depicts a positive, gentle interaction (a hug) that is universally understood. The lack of a complex background keeps the child's focus on the central theme of friendship and comfort.
