Coloring page story
Ziggy the zebra loved to make friends. But Gerald the giraffe was always grumpy. "Good morning, Gerald!" Ziggy would say. Gerald would just munch, munch, grumble on some low leaves. Ziggy felt sad. "Why won't he be my friend?" he wondered.
Ziggy watched Gerald. He saw the giraffe stretching his long neck, trying to reach the sweet, yummy leaves at the very top of the tallest acacia tree. He would stretch and stretch, but he just couldn't reach. Grrrrumble! went Gerald's tummy, and Grrrrumble! went his voice.
Ziggy had an idea! "Friends!" he called to the other zebras. "Let's help!" Ziggy stood by the tree, and another zebra stood on his back, and another on hers! They made a tall, wobbly zebra tower! Ziggy, at the very bottom, called up, "Can you reach them now, Gerald?"
Twist: Gerald wasn't grumpy, he was "hangry" (hungry and angry)! He nibbled the high leaves. Munch, munch, yum! He smiled a big giraffe smile. "Thank you, Ziggy!" he said. "You're a good friend." From then on, Gerald was the friendliest giraffe on the savanna.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The silly and impossible situation of a 'zebra tower' is highly engaging for ages 3-5. The characters are distinct and have simple, happy emotions. The large, separate shapes of each zebra, the tree, and the giraffe head make it an easy and rewarding coloring challenge for small hands.
Coloring Page Coloring Instructions
Wow, look at that tall zebra tower! Let's color all three brave friends. You can give each zebra different colored stripes if you like! What color will the yummy leaves be for Gerald the giraffe? Make them a delicious green! You can make the sky a beautiful blue behind them.
Coloring Page Printing Tips
This is a vertical composition, so ensure your printer is set to 'portrait' orientation. Printing on slightly heavier paper will prevent markers from bleeding through and make the final artwork feel more substantial. A good print will make this zebra scene ready for display!
Recommended Tools
Felt-tip markers would be great for the bold, retro cartoon style. Twistable crayons are also a good option as they don't require sharpening and provide smooth color. This is a great page for collaborative coloring with a friend!
