Coloring page story

The sun was very hot. Sizzle, sizzle. The marigolds in the garden were very, very thirsty. Their heads began to droop, and their bright orange color started to fade.

"Oh, I'm so thirsty," whispered one marigold to another. "My leaves feel all floppy." [Interactive Element: Let your head and arms droop like a thirsty flower.]

A little bird saw the sad, droopy flowers. He flew to a nearby birdbath and took a sip. Then he flew to a little girl's window and started to sing his loudest song. Chirp, chirp, CHEERP!

The girl, named Maya, heard the bird. "What is it, little bird?" She followed him to the window and saw the sad garden. "Oh no! The flowers need our help!" Twist: The bird wasn't just singing; he was calling for a helper.

Maya grabbed her little blue watering can, filled it up, and gave each marigold a long, cool drink. Ahhhh. The flowers lifted their heads and their color came back, brighter than ever. They had all worked together to save the garden.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The 'Nature Exploration Cartoon' style is great for ages 3-5, as it clearly depicts a positive interaction with the natural world. The narrative is easy to follow: girl waters flowers, flowers are happy. The large, simple objects—watering can, flowers, child—are easy to identify and color. This reinforces the story's lesson about helping and seeing the positive result of that action. Coloring the water droplets adds a fun, repetitive task for practicing motor control.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Hooray, Maya is helping the thirsty marigolds! You can make the marigold flowers bright and happy with your favorite colors. What color is Maya's watering can? You can make the little water drops a beautiful blue. Don't forget the little bird who called for help! He's a hero, too!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

This page has many small, repeating shapes (the water drops). A clear, dark print will help your child see them easily. Printing on slightly thicker paper can help prevent buckling if your child decides to color the page with a lot of blue marker!

Recommended Tools

Washable markers are great for the water drops and flowers. Crayons are good for the larger areas like the sun and Maya's clothes. This page is a great opportunity to talk about the color blue and its connection to water.
