Franny Fox was sitting by the pond. A big green leaf fell from a tree and landed on the water. Plop. It didn't sink. It floated! Then, a little grey stone rolled into the water. Ker-plunk! It sank right to the bottom.
"Hmm," wondered Franny. "Why does the leaf float and the stone sink?"
She decided to be a scientist. She found a fluffy feather. She dropped it in. It floated! She found a heavy, wet acorn. She dropped it in. It sank!
The Twist: Then she found a dry, empty snail shell. What will this do? she thought. She placed it gently on the water. It floated like a tiny boat! But when she pushed it under the water, bubbles came out (blub, blub, blub) and it filled with water and sank! "Aha!" she chirped. "It's not just about heavy or light, it's about being full of air!"
