Coloring page story

Mia had a plain white carnation. It was pretty, but she thought, "What if it could be a rainbow?"

She found her watercolor paints. Red, blue, and yellow. She put the white carnation in a jar of water. Then she had a wonderfully silly idea. She took her red paintbrush and drip, drop, she put a drop of red paint into the water.

She went to play. When she came back, something magical was happening! Tiny red lines were crawling up the carnation’s stem and into its white petals! It looked like it had red stripes!

"Wow!" she gasped. She added a drip, drop of blue. Plot Twist: The next day, the carnation wasn't just red and blue. Where the colors met on the petals, they had mixed to make a brand new color: purple! It was a true rainbow flower, created by her.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The design is very suitable for ages 3-5. It focuses on a single, large object (the carnation in the jar), which is easy for young children to recognize and color. The simple shapes and clear cause-and-effect visual (paintbrush, drops, lines in stem) make the science concept easy to grasp at a basic level.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

It's time for a magic experiment! This carnation is waiting for you to give it some color. You can trace the little lines going up the stem and into the petals with a bright color, like red or blue. What happens if you color one petal red and the one next to it blue? Maybe they will make a new color! Let's make this the most colorful magic carnation ever!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print on a sturdy paper like white cardstock. After coloring, you could even try the real experiment with your child! Having the coloring page next to the real thing would be a fantastic learning experience. A clean print will make the 'magic' lines in the carnations easy to see and color.

Recommended Tools

Fine-tipped washable markers are perfect for coloring in the 'magic' lines on the stem and petals. Watercolors would be a wonderfully thematic tool to use on this page, connecting the art directly to the story's inspiration. Just be sure to use thick paper!
