Coloring page story

After a soft rain, a big puddle shimmered in the yard. Pip looked in. "Oh!" he chirped. He saw a fluffy, yellow chick looking right back at him! He moved left, the puddle-chick moved left. He blinked, the puddle-chick blinked back.

"Hello?" he peeped at his new friend. The puddle-chick opened its beak but said nothing.

He gently pecked at the friend. SPLASH! The friend wiggled and vanished! Pip felt a cold drop on his beak. He had tasted the puddle-sky!

Plot Twist: Just as he was wondering where his friend went, a big, fat worm wriggled right through the middle of the puddle, making his reflection jiggle like jelly. The "puddle-chick" was back, and he was dancing!

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The theme of exploring a puddle is highly relatable for a 3-5 year old. The visual setup is simple to understand, with clear, large areas to color: the chick, the worm, the puddle, and the ground. This helps children practice staying within the lines.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Wow, Pip found a friend in the water! Let's color Pip with your favorite sunny yellow. The friendly worm can be pink or brown. What color is water? You can use your blue crayon to fill in the whole puddle! Don't forget the green grass around the puddle-sky.

Coloring Page Printing Tips

To enhance the 'water' theme, consider printing this page on light blue paper. The black outlines of the chick and worm will stand out beautifully, and the puddle will already have a lovely base color to work with.

Recommended Tools

Twistable crayons are great because they don't require sharpening and their tips can get into the smaller areas like the worm's segments. Watercolor paints would also be a fantastic, though messier, option for painting the puddle to make it look realistic!
