Coloring page story

One sunny morning, Pip saw a giant, dark monster on the barn wall. It had long, wobbly legs and a funny, round head. GULP! Pip was scared. He hid behind a big, green leaf.

He peeked out. When he wiggled, the monster wiggled! When he stood still, the monster stood still! This was very strange.

Mama Hen saw him hiding. "What's wrong, Pip?" she clucked. "A monster!" peeped Pip, pointing with his wing.

Mama Hen looked and smiled. "That's not a monster, little one. That's a shadow. It's you!"

Plot Twist: Pip stepped out from behind the leaf. He flapped his tiny wings. The shadow monster flapped its wings, too! It wasn't scary at all; it was his very own dancing partner! He hopped and the shadow hopped with him.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The highly expressive face on the chick makes the emotion of the story—joy—crystal clear for a 3-5 year old. The simple composition with only two main elements (chick and shadow) allows the child to focus on the narrative and color without being overwhelmed.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Look, Pip isn't scared anymore! He's dancing! Let's give Pip a happy color, like bright yellow or orange. His shadow is already filled in for you, so you can focus on making Pip as colorful and joyful as you can! You can even draw some happy music notes in the air around him!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print this coloring page in 'black and white' mode to ensure the shadow is a solid, dark shape, creating a great contrast for the colors your child will add to the chick. Standard A4 or Letter paper is perfect.

Recommended Tools

Washable markers will make Pip pop against his shadow. Colored pencils are also great for practicing more detailed coloring within the lines. For a fun texture, try using cotton balls to dab paint onto the chick's body!
