Coloring page story
Finn and Will, brothers just a year apart, were at war. The casualty was their grandfather’s hand-carved nativity scene. A shove, an angry shout, and the wooden shepherd had split right in two.
“You broke it!” Will cried, his face red with anger.
“You pushed me first!” Finn retorted, his own eyes stinging.
Their mother sent them to their separate rooms, the broken shepherd sitting between them on the mantelpiece like a sad reminder. From his window, Finn watched the Christmas Star climb the sky. It looked so perfect, so flawless. Not like him. He felt broken, just like the little wooden man.
Later, their father came into his room. He wasn't angry. He sat on the bed and held out the two pieces of the shepherd. “See these?” he said softly. “When I was your age, I broke the camel. Your grandpa didn’t shout. He got his wood glue.”
He showed Finn how the break was rough and jagged. “He told me that when you mend something, it creates a new line. He called it a map of scars. It tells the story of how something was loved enough to be fixed.”
Finn looked from the broken wood to his own hands. He thought of Will, alone in his room. He took the pieces and walked to his brother’s door, knocking softly. “Will?” he whispered. “Dad has the glue.”
Under the light of the Christmas Star, the two boys sat at the kitchen table. They carefully pieced the shepherd together. The thin line of dried glue was visible, a tiny scar. But to them, it no longer looked broken. It looked like the story of two brothers who had found their way back to each other.

A fine-point black pen could be used by a confident artist to trace the 'scar' on the shepherd after it has been colored, making it a special detail.
