Coloring page story
Orville Cogsworth was the workshop’s inventor. His corner was full of gears, springs, and blueprints. He invented toys that could walk, talk, and even do somersaults. Today, he was perfecting his newest creation: the Super-Bouncy Ball. “This,” he declared, “will be the bounciest ball in the history of toys!”
He held up a small, rainbow-colored ball and dropped it. Boing! It bounced to his waist. BOING! It bounced to his head. BOOOOING! It bounced all the way to the ceiling, then shot across the room. Boing-boing-boing-boing! It bounced off the toy train tracks, knocked over a stack of board games, and ricocheted off a dollhouse. “Catch it!” Orville yelled, chasing after it. Elves ducked and dodged as the ball zoomed everywhere. It was a bouncing disaster! "It's too bouncy!" Orville moaned. "My invention is a failure!"
The ball finally bounced right into Santa’s hands as he walked by. He looked at the chaotic workshop, then at the quivering ball in his hand. He didn’t look angry. He chuckled. He pulled out his long list and read, “For Leo, who has so much energy he wishes he could bounce to the moon.” Santa’s eyes twinkled at Orville. “Orville, my boy,” he said. “This isn’t a blunder. It’s perfect!” Orville realized his invention wasn't a failure; it was just for a very special kind of child. He smiled, grabbed his blueprints, and started designing a special, super-strong box to put it in.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The clear action and humorous scene are very appealing to 3-5 year olds. The use of simple motion lines is a great introduction to visual storytelling cues. The main characters, Santa and Orville, are large and easy to color, while the background toys offer smaller (but not tiny) areas for more focused coloring.

Whoosh, catch that ball! Santa saved the day. Let's color in this busy workshop. Santa looks great in red, and what color is Orville's inventor coat? Maybe a smart blue or green? The bouncy ball was a rainbow ball in the story, so you can use all your favorite colors on it! You can also color all the fun toys that got knocked over. Have a bouncy good time!
Recommended Tools
Felt-tip pens would be great for this page, as their sharp points can get into the details of the toys while the wide side can color the larger areas of Santa's suit. This is a great page for a child who is ready to move from crayons to markers.
