Gilda Glitter’s job was the best in the workshop: she added the sparkle! With a pot of shimmering dust made from frozen moonbeams, she made fairy wings shimmer and toy crowns gleam. Poof! A little sparkle here. Poof! A little sparkle there. The whole workshop relied on her poof-poof-poofing.

But one morning, Gilda dipped her brush into her pot and… clink. It was empty! She checked the backup pot. Empty! The glitter machine that crushed the moonbeams had gone to sleep for the winter. “Oh no!” she gasped. “The dolls will be dull! The wands won’t twinkle!” She saw a row of ballerina dolls with plain, boring tutus. Gilda’s bottom lip began to wobble. A workshop without sparkle wasn’t a proper workshop at all. What could she do?

Feeling gloomy, Gilda went for a walk outside. The sun was just rising, and it hit the overnight frost on the windowpanes, making it flash with a thousand tiny rainbows. Flash! Glimmer! Shine! Gilda’s eyes went wide. She carefully scraped some frost into a little jar. It was cold but so, so sparkly! She rushed back inside and gently dusted a ballerina’s tutu. It didn’t just sparkle, it shimmered with all the colors of the sunrise! It was even more beautiful than the old glitter. The elves all gathered around to ooh and ahh. Gilda learned that even when you run out of what you think you need, sometimes you can find something even more wonderful just by looking at the world in a new way.
