Coloring page story
It was the day before Christmas Eve, the busiest time of all. Santa Claus sat at his enormous desk, checking his list. He checked it once, he checked it twice. His brow was furrowed with concentration. Check, check, check. He was so focused on making sure no child was forgotten that he had forgotten something very important himself.
Mrs. Claus brought him a cup of cocoa. “Time for a break, my dear,” she said. “Tell me a jolly joke.” Santa looked up, his mind still on the list. He opened his mouth to give his big, famous laugh, but all that came out was a little, tired sigh. “Ho… ho… hmmph.” He tried again. “Ho… hum.” His laugh was gone! A Santa without a “Ho Ho Ho” was like a Christmas tree without lights. The workshop grew quiet. The elves stopped their work, their faces full of worry.
Mrs. Claus knew just what to do. She whispered to the elves. A moment later, Orville Cogsworth rolled out a tickle-machine, Petunia Paintpot drew a silly face on Santa’s nose with washable paint, and Wobble Jinglefeet did a funny, clumsy dance that ended with him falling into a pile of soft toy stuffing. Santa watched, a small smile playing on his lips. Then, Pip Squeak climbed onto his shoulder and tickled him under his chin with a reindeer’s feather. A little chuckle escaped. Heh. Then a bigger one. Ha ha! Then, it came roaring back, a big, booming, belly-shaking “HO! HO! HO!” that echoed through the entire workshop. The elves cheered! Santa learned that while his list was very important, the joy and laughter of Christmas were the most important things of all. And his was the loudest of all.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The exaggerated, clear emotions are very easy for children aged 3-5 to recognize and understand. The large, central figure of Santa provides a great canvas for coloring. The scene is dynamic but not cluttered, making it an exciting and manageable task for little artists learning to express themselves with color.
