Coloring page story

Flicker Bright was the sleigh electrician. His job was to make sure every single light on Santa's sleigh glowed brightly for the big night. He especially loved the big, main headlight, which shone like its own special star. Click! The light would turn on. BZZZZZZZ, it would hum with happy, bright magic.

But today, when Flicker clicked the switch, the big light didn’t go BZZZZZZZ. It went bzz… pfft… flicker… POP! And then it went out. “Oh, gumdrops!” Flicker said. He checked the bulb. It was fine. He checked the wires. They seemed okay. He tried again. Click! bzz… pfft… POP! The light just wouldn’t stay on. The other elves started to gather. “What if Santa can’t see where he’s going?” whispered one. Flicker felt his cheeks get hot. The most important light on the whole sleigh wasn’t working, and it was all his fault.

Flicker decided to trace the wire from the very beginning. He followed it behind the dashboard, into a little metal box. And there, curled up on the warm wires, was a tiny white arctic mouse and her three babies, all fast asleep in a nest made of red ribbon scraps. Every time the power went on, one of the babies would kick the wire! pfft! Flicker’s heart melted. He gently scooped up the entire nest. “Don’t worry, little ones,” he whispered. He made them a new, cozier home in a spare mitten filled with soft cotton. Then he fixed the wire. Click! The headlight shone, brighter and steadier than ever before! BZZZZZZZZZ! Flicker learned that sometimes a big problem has a very small, and very cute, cause. And being gentle is always the right answer.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The Cute Animal Cartoon style makes the mice adorable and not scary, which is perfect for preschoolers. The scene's focus on gentle hands and sleeping creatures promotes a sense of calm and kindness. The large shapes of the elf, the nest, and the sleigh components are easy for little hands to color within the lines.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Oh, look at the sleepy little mice! Flicker is being so gentle with them. Let's be gentle when we color them in. You could make their ribbon nest a bright, festive red. What color is Flicker's hat and suit? And the big headlight on Santa's sleigh needs a bright yellow color so it can shine the way! You are doing such a wonderful job being kind to the animals.

Coloring Page Printing Tips

For this detailed but simple drawing, use your printer's 'Normal' or 'Best' quality setting to make sure the outlines of the tiny mice are clear and sharp. Standard copy paper works perfectly for this illustration.

Recommended Tools

Colored pencils are a great choice here, as they allow for more detailed coloring on the small mice while still being easy to use. For a softer look, try using the side of a crayon to gently shade the larger areas like Flicker's suit or the sleigh.
