"I can't play!" he cried to his friend, Luna. "My blinker is broken!" He hid behind a toadstool, feeling useless and sad as the other fireflies zipped through the air like tiny stars.

A deep, rumbly voice said, "What's all the fuss, little bug?" It was Bartholomew, the wise old toad.

"My light is gone," Flicker sniffled. "I can't do anything."

Bartholomew chuckled. "Nonsense. You still have your wings, don't you? And your ears? Let's try a new game. You close your eyes and listen. I'll make a sound, and you try to find me."

Flicker wasn't sure, but he agreed. He listened hard. He heard the crick-crick of the crickets and the whoosh of the wind. Then he heard it... a soft plonk.
