Coloring page story

Gerry the Giraffe had legs that were very, very long. So long, in fact, that they often got tangled up. When he tried to run with the zebras, his legs would go wibble-wobble-CRASH! and he'd end up in a heap. "Whoops-a-daisy," he'd sigh, his long neck blushing red. He just wanted to dance and leap gracefully, but his legs wouldn't listen.

One day, all the animals gathered for the Great Mango Festival. But there was a problem. The most delicious, golden mango was hanging from the very tippy-top of the tallest tree. The monkeys tried to climb, but the branch was too thin. The elephants tried to reach with their trunks, but it was too high. Everyone was disappointed.

Gerry watched from the back, feeling too clumsy to help. His mother nudged him gently. "Go on, Gerry," she whispered. "Your legs may be wobbly, but your neck is a wonder."

Gerry took a deep breath. He walked carefully towards the tree. His legs felt a bit wobbly, but he stood tall. He stretched his long, long neck. Up... up... UUUUP... past all the other leaves. He gently plucked the golden mango with his lips and brought it down.

Hooray! cheered all the animals. They didn't see wobbly legs. They saw a hero! Gerry realized his long neck was a superpower. He did a little dance, and this time, his wobbly, wibbly legs felt joyful and proud. It was the best dance of all because it was his very own.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The round, soft style is very appealing and safe for 3-5 year olds. The vertical composition is exciting and helps children follow the story's action from the bottom to the top. The large, simple shapes of the giraffe and tree are perfect for developing hand-eye coordination.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Wow, look at how tall Gerry the Giraffe is! He's using his super-long neck to save the day. Can you give Gerry his beautiful spots? You can make them brown, or orange, or even rainbow-colored! The mango he is picking is the yummiest of all, so it needs a bright, sunny color. And don't forget his happy animal friends at the bottom who are cheering for him! Let's make everyone look joyful.

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print this page in 'portrait' orientation to make the most of Gerry's tall neck! Using a slightly heavier paper will make the final artwork feel more substantial and prevent colors from bleeding, especially if your little artist is a fan of markers. A crisp print will make coloring in Gerry's spots extra fun.

Recommended Tools

Crayons are excellent for filling in Gerry's spots and the large areas of the tree. Colored pencils can be used for the smaller cheering animals at the bottom. This is a great page to talk about how being different, like having a long neck, can be a wonderful thing.
