Coloring page story

Of all the acorns Squeaky the Squirrel had ever buried, one was his absolute favorite. It was perfectly round, smooth, and had a funny little hat that tilted to one side. He called it his Lucky Acorn. But one morning, he went to find it... and he couldn't remember where he'd put it.

Sniff-sniff-scamper! He dug a hole by the big oak tree. Nope, just dirt. Dig-dig-scurry! He dug a hole by the mossy rock. Nope, just a wriggly worm. He ran in circles, his fluffy tail twitching with worry. "Where did I put it? Where, oh where?"

He saw wise old Professor Owl blinking in a high branch. Professor Owl saw everything. But Squeaky was a little too proud to admit he'd lost something. I can find it myself, he thought. He spent the whole morning digging useless holes until he was covered in dirt and very, very frustrated.

Finally, he sat under Professor Owl’s branch with a big sigh.

"Lost something, have we, young Squeaky?" the owl hooted softly.

Squeaky’s ears drooped. "My Lucky Acorn," he admitted in a small voice. "I can't find it anywhere."

Professor Owl blinked his big, round eyes. "Hmm. Tell me, what did you do after you buried it yesterday?"

Squeaky thought hard. "Well... I saw a red leaf fall, so I chased it all the way to the little stream, and then I took a drink."

"Aha!" hooted the owl. "Sometimes a friend's eyes can see what our own memory misses. Let's look by the stream."

They went to the stream together. And there, tucked right at the base of a cattail, was a fresh little pile of dirt. Squeaky dug, and there it was—his Lucky Acorn! He hugged it tight. "Thank you, Professor Owl!" Squeaky chattered. He had learned that asking for help wasn't a sign of weakness, but a very clever way to solve a problem.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The narrative style is excellent for 3-5 year olds, as it clearly tells a part of the story. The friendly-looking animal characters are appealing, and the scene is simple enough not to overwhelm young children. The distinct shapes of the squirrel, owl, and acorn are easy to identify and color.
