Coloring page story
On the edge of a giant sheet of ice stood a colony of penguins. One by one, they would waddle to the edge and—SLIDE! SPLOOSH!—disappear into the deep blue sea. Everyone except for little Percy.
Percy stood with his feet planted firmly on the ice. The ocean looked so big. The water looked so cold. His tummy did flip-flops just watching. "I don't want to," he chirped to his papa.
His papa waddled over and stood beside him, not pushing, just being there. "What are you worried about, little one?" he asked in his warm, deep voice.
"It's... it's too big," Percy whispered, looking at the endless water. "And it looks shivery."
"It is big," Papa agreed. "And the first splash is shivery. But then, Percy, it feels like flying. Under the water, you are sleek and fast. It's our special magic." He held out his flipper. "We can do the shivery part together. On the count of three?"
Percy looked at his papa's kind eyes and then at the sparkling water. He took a tiny, brave breath and grabbed his papa's flipper. "Okay."
"One..." Papa said. Percy's heart beat fast.
"Two..." Percy squeezed the flipper tight.
"THREE!"
Together, they slid off the ice. WHOOSH! A shock of cold, and then... it was just like Papa said. It was like flying. He zoomed and swirled, chasing silver fish with his papa right beside him. The big, scary ocean was now a big, wonderful playground.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The clear action and emotional connection between the two characters are easily understood by 3-5 year olds. The large, simple shapes of the penguins and the water are perfect for unpracticed hands. The theme of parental support is comforting and relatable for this age group.

Coloring Page Printing Tips
Print this exciting animal page on standard printer paper. For a fun effect, you could use light blue paper to give the whole scene an icy, underwater feel right from the start! Make sure your printer settings are on 'normal' or 'best' to get solid black lines for coloring.
Recommended Tools
Broad-tip washable markers are great for filling in the large areas of water and ice. For the penguins, a black crayon or marker for their 'coats' and an orange one for their beaks would be perfect. This is a great opportunity to talk about bravery and trying new things with a grown-up.
