Coloring page story
"Stay where I can see you, Bouncy," said Mama Rabbit, as she dug for sweet clover roots. "The woods are very big."
"Okay, Mama!" said Bouncy. But just then, the most beautiful butterfly he had ever seen fluttered past. It had wings like blue and purple jewels. I'll just follow it for a little bit, he thought. Hop, hop, hop.
The butterfly danced over a log and under a fern. Bouncy followed, his nose twitching with excitement. Hop, hop, hoppity-hop. He was having so much fun, he didn't notice how far he was going. Suddenly, the butterfly flew high up into the sky and was gone.
Bouncy looked around. He couldn't see the clover patch. He couldn't see his mama. All the trees looked the same. Uh-oh. A little worry started in his tummy. "Mama?" he called out. His voice sounded small in the big, quiet woods. He was lost.
He sat down by a mossy rock and felt a tear plop onto his paw. He remembered what Mama Rabbit always told him: "If you're ever lost, stay in one place and use your listening ears." Bouncy perked up his long ears. He heard the tweet-tweet of a bird and the rustle of leaves. And then... very faintly... he heard a familiar sound. Thump-thump-thump. It was Mama Rabbit, thumping her foot on the ground, calling for him!
"I'm here!" he shouted, hopping with relief. Soon, Mama Rabbit appeared, her face worried but so happy to see him. She gave him the biggest, snuggliest hug. Bouncy promised to always use his listening ears, especially when Mama was talking.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The theme of a mother's hug is universally comforting and relatable for children aged 3-5. The drawing style, with its simple shapes and lack of distracting detail, allows children to focus on the emotion of the scene. The large shapes of the rabbits are easy for small hands to color.
