Coloring page story

Squeaky was a very busy, very cheerful, and very forgetful squirrel. His most important job was to polish the Red stripe of the rainbow with his special berry-stained polishing cloth. The rain had stopped. The sun was warming the air, which smelled of wet earth and sweet flowers. "Time to polish!" chattered Squeaky. He scampered to his secret nook in the old oak tree and reached inside for his precious red cloth. But his paw found only acorns and a single, lost button. His cloth was gone! "Oh, whiskers!" he squeaked, his tail twitching with worry. Without his cloth, the Red stripe would be dull and dim! The whole rainbow would look sleepy. Panic began to bubble in his chest. Where could it be? He retraced his steps. Did he leave it by the babbling brook? Nope. Did he drop it in the patch of crunchy leaves? Rustle, rustle… nope. He felt a tear prickle his eye. He had one job, and he had failed. Just then, wise old Professor Hoot landed on a branch above. "Squeaky, my boy," he hooted softly. "You look like you've lost your favorite nut." Squeaky explained everything, his voice trembling. Professor Hoot blinked his big, round eyes. "Think, Squeaky. Where did you take your coziest nap today?" Squeaky’s nose twitched. The strawberry patch! He’d been napping on something soft and red. He zipped over to the patch, and there it was, smelling of sunshine and sweet berries. He grabbed it, scurried up the invisible arch, and polished with all his might. SWISH-SWOOSH! The Red stripe gleamed, the brightest anyone had ever seen it. Squeaky learned it's okay to forget, and sometimes you just need a wise friend to help you remember.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The scene is full of familiar, friendly nature elements (squirrel, owl, strawberries) that are appealing to 3-5-year-olds. The characters are distinct and have large areas to color, helping children practice staying within the lines. The narrative of finding a lost item is a relatable concept for this age.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Let's help Squeaky celebrate! He found his special cloth. Can you color the strawberries a juicy red? Squeaky could be a nice, warm brown, and Professor Hoot can be any color you'd like an owl to be! Don't forget to color the big green leaves on the strawberry plants. The story says his cloth was red from berries, so a bright red would be perfect for it!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

To capture all the simple details of the strawberry patch, print on a smooth, white paper. This will provide a great canvas for crayons or markers. Ensure your printer isn't set to 'eco mode' to get nice, solid black lines for your little artist to work with.

Recommended Tools

Washable markers are great for making the strawberries and Squeaky's cloth look bold and bright. For the finer details like the owl's feathers or the squirrel's fur, colored pencils can be introduced. This offers a chance to practice with different tools and the pressure needed for each, a great step in developing a full rainbow of art skills.
