Coloring page story

Smudge was a young painter-elf, full of energy and often in a hurry. He was in charge of painting the colors onto the rainbow, but his brushes sometimes had a mind of their own. One morning, Smudge was in such a rush to go play acorn-ball that he wasn't paying attention. He grabbed his paint pots, flew up to the sky, and started painting. Slosh, splish, splash! He finished in record time and zipped off to his game. Down below, a little frog looked up and blinked. "That's funny," he croaked. "The sky is yellow and the sun is… blue?" A ladybug crawled on a leaf. "My shell is green!" she cried. "I'm supposed to be red!" Smudge had painted the rainbow all mixed up! The colors were in the wrong order, and they had dripped all over the world below, making everything topsy-turvy. The world was a silly, mixed-up mess, and it was all his fault. Smudge felt his cheeks turn bright red (a color that should have been at the top of the rainbow!). Hearing the confusion, Smudge flew back, his paintbrush drooping. "I'm so sorry!" he called out. "I was in too much of a hurry." He knew he had to fix it. He carefully took his magic cleaning-cloth and wiped the sky clean. Then, slowly and carefully, he started again. He sang a little song to help him remember: "Red at the top, so brave and bright, then orange and yellow, full of light. Green in the middle, blue so deep, with indigo and violet while the world's asleep." He painted each stripe perfectly. The world below returned to normal, and the rainbow was more beautiful than ever. Smudge learned that it's better to do something slowly and well than quickly and messily.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The cute, exaggerated features of the chibi-style elf are highly appealing to young children. The silly, 'messy' theme of spilled paint is relatable and fun. The large, simple shapes of the frog, ladybug, and paint drips are easy for small hands to navigate with a crayon, making it a low-pressure, high-fun activity.
