Coloring page story

Lily was a little girl with dirt under her fingernails and sunshine in her hair. She loved to grow things, and her biggest wish was to grow a rainbow. The old gardener, Mr. Fitzwillow, gave Lily a small paper bag. "Rainbow seeds," he said with a wink. Lily was so excited! She ran home and opened the bag. Inside were seven plain, gray, bumpy seeds. They didn't look like rainbows at all. "Hmm," she said, a little disappointed, but she trusted Mr. Fitzwillow. She planted them carefully in a special pot. Lily watered her seeds every day. She sang them songs. She told them stories. Soon, tiny green shoots poked out of the soil. "Hooray!" she cheered. But days passed, and they just got bigger and greener. There was no red, no orange, no yellow. Just green, green, green. "Oh, no," Lily sighed, her shoulders slumping. "I think Mr. Fitzwillow made a mistake. I'm just growing boring leaves." She felt frustrated and wanted to give up. Just as she was about to stop watering, she saw a tiny speck of red on one plant. A bud! The next day, it opened into a beautiful red poppy. And on another plant, an orange marigold! Then a yellow daffodil, a green hosta leaf, a blue cornflower, a deep indigo iris, and finally, a vibrant violet petunia. They weren't in an arch in the sky, but they were all there, a rainbow of flowers growing in her pot. Lily laughed with delight. She learned that good things take time and patience, and that sometimes, magic is hidden inside the plainest of things, just waiting to grow.
