Coloring page story
Rexy was a happy T-Rex, and when he was happy, he ROARED! When he caught the swing at its highest point? "ROAR!" When he built the tallest tower in the volcano-sandbox? "ROOOOAR!" His roars were full of joy.
One afternoon, he saw Tilly the Triceratops building a delicate house of leaves. It was the best leaf-house he had ever seen! He was so impressed and happy for his friend that he let out his biggest, happiest roar yet.
"ROOOOOOAAAAARRRRR!"
The force of his roar sent the little leaves scattering everywhere. Poof! Tilly’s beautiful house was gone. She looked at the empty spot, her bottom lip wobbling. She didn't cry, but her whole body looked sad.
Rexy's happy feeling vanished. His big roar had knocked down his friend's creation. "I... I'm sorry, Tilly," he mumbled, his own voice now a tiny rumble. "I was just so happy."
"It was too loud," she whispered, looking at her feet.
Just then, Mama Maiasaura, who watched over the playground, came over. "Rexy," she said softly, "your roar is a wonderful, strong sound. But like your big feet, you have to know where to use it. Some places need big, stompy feet, and some places need tiptoes. And some places need big, happy roars, while some need a 'quiet roar'."
"A quiet roar?" Rexy asked, confused.
"Try it," she encouraged. "Think of your big happy feeling, but let it out in a little puff of air. Like a kitten's roar."
Rexy thought about Tilly's amazing house. He felt that big happy feeling bubble up, but this time, he kept his mouth almost closed and let out a tiny sound. "Grrrrumble-squeak!"
Tilly giggled. It was the funniest sound she had ever heard. Rexy tried again. "Rrr-meow!" Tilly laughed out loud. Rexy felt happy again, but this time, his happiness made his friend laugh instead of making her sad. Together, they started rebuilding the leaf house, and whenever Rexy felt a big roar coming, he would turn it into a silly, quiet roar, just for Tilly.
