Coloring page story
In the center of the Dinosaur Playground was a large, flat stone called the Sun Stone. All day long, it soaked up the sunshine and glowed with a warm, bright light. But as the day began to end, the stone's light would slowly start to fade.
The little dinosaurs were having too much fun to notice. Rexy was getting one last push on the swings. Pippa was doing one last swoop. Tilly and Steggy were making one last mud pie.
Then, Mama Maiasaura's gentle voice called out, "Look, little ones. The Sun Stone is getting sleepy."
They all stopped and looked. The stone, which had been bright yellow, was now a soft, gentle orange. Its light was dimming.
"Oh no!" cried Pippa. "I'm not finished playing!"
"Five more minutes!" begged Rexy.
"The Sun Stone tells us it's time for the playground to rest," Mama Maiasaura explained. "It works hard all day to stay bright for you, and now it needs to sleep, just like you do."
They watched as the stone's glow softened to a deep, sleepy red, and then faded completely as the first star appeared in the sky. A quiet hush fell over the playground. It did look sleepy.
Tilly yawned. Steggy rubbed his eyes. Even Rexy felt a little tired.
"Does the Sun Stone wake up tomorrow?" Tilly asked in a small voice.
"Yes, my dear," said Mama Maiasaura, gathering them close. "When the big sun comes back to the sky, it will wake up the Sun Stone, and the playground will be ready for you to play all over again."
Holding hands, they walked towards their cozy nests. They weren't sad anymore. They knew that saying goodbye for the night just meant a happy hello was waiting for them in the morning. And they dreamed sweet dreams of the Sun Stone, resting and getting ready for another day of fun.
