Coloring page story
One day, the Star-Hopper flew past a beautiful comet. It should have had a long, straight, sparkly tail. But this comet’s tail was all tangled and wobbly. It flew in loop-the-loops and zig-zags, looking very sad. Wobble-wobble-whine.
“That poor comet,” Bron said, his voice full of sympathy. “Its tail is all in a knot.”
“We can’t just leave it like that!” Rex declared. “Dino-nauts to the rescue!”
But how do you fix a comet’s tail?
Velo wanted to fly around it really fast to blow it straight. WHOOSH! He just made it wobble more. Rex wanted to grab it with the ship’s robotic arm, but he was afraid he’d be too rough.
Tripsy watched the tail of fizzing, shimmering stardust. “It’s like tangled hair,” she observed. “When my mom brushes my frill, she does it very gently.”
That gave Rex an idea! “The Star-Hopper has cleaning brushes on the outside!” he exclaimed.
They flew the ship very slowly and carefully alongside the comet. They extended the long, soft brushes and, ever so gently, began to comb the sparkly tail. They brushed out the tangles of stardust and smoothed the knots of cosmic dust.
Swish… swoosh… sparkle…
Soon, the comet’s tail was long and straight and shimmering perfectly. The comet did a happy little wiggle and shot across the sky in a perfect, glowing line, leaving a trail of thank-you sparkles behind it.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The large, arching shape of the comet's tail is an inviting canvas for young children, encouraging broad, sweeping coloring motions. The concept of 'brushing' or 'combing' is familiar and easy to understand. The friendly spaceship and smiling comet are appealing to the 3-5 age group.
Coloring Page Printing Tips
This page has a lovely, wide format. Be sure your printer settings are set to 'fit to page' to capture the entire beautiful arc of the comet. Printing on standard paper is fine, as this design is perfect for crayons and colored pencils.
Recommended Tools
Crayons are ideal for this page. Children can use the side of the crayon to fill in the large comet tail with broad strokes of color, which is a great motor skill to practice. They can then use the tip of the crayon for the smaller details on the Star-Hopper ship.
