Sparkle believed she was the most brilliant, most beautiful, most dazzling snowflake in the entire sky. "My destiny," she would announce, "is to land on the very top of the tallest Christmas tree in the town square. Everyone will look at me and say, 'Ooooh! Aaaah!'" She practiced glittering as she waited in her cloud.

As she fell, she aimed carefully for the giant fir tree with the gold star on top. "Almost there... almost there..." she chanted. But a mischievous gust of wind had other plans. It puffed its cheeks and PFFFT! blew Sparkle sideways. She missed the tree completely and landed with a frustrated plink in a messy pile of twigs and nuts. "This is a disaster!" she cried. "This is a squirrel's nest! It's dirty and brown!" A grumpy squirrel poked his head out. "And a Happy Christmas to you, too," he grumbled. "It's my first one alone. No sparkle in here."

Sparkle looked at the sad little squirrel in his drab little home. Her desire to be on top of the tree suddenly felt... small. She took a deep breath and began to shimmer with all her might. She glittered and gleamed, casting tiny rainbows all over the squirrel's nest. The squirrel's eyes went wide. "Oh!" he chattered. "It's beautiful! You've brought the Christmas sparkle to me!" Watching the squirrel's happy face, Sparkle felt a warmth she'd never felt before. She realized that being the most important snowflake wasn't about being seen by everyone, but about bringing light to someone who needed it most.
