Coloring page story
Flicker was a brand-new snowflake, and his six icy points trembled. He peeked over the edge of his soft, fluffy cloud and looked down, down, down. The world below was a dark blanket pricked with tiny, twinkling lights. All the other snowflakes were excited for the "Great Tumble." Not Flicker. He wanted to stay right where he was, safe in his cloud-home.
An old, wise snowflake named Nimbus drifted beside him. "What's the matter, little one?" Nimbus rumbled, his voice like soft thunder.
"I'm scared of falling," whispered Flicker.
"It's not falling," said Nimbus with a chuckle. "It's dancing. The wind will be your partner. Just listen to the music."
Suddenly, a great gust of wind, a WHOOSH, scooped them all up! Flicker squeezed his eyes shut. He tumbled and twirled, the wind whistling in his icy ears. "I can't! I can't!" he thought. But then, he remembered Nimbus's words. He tried to listen. Beneath the wind's roar, he heard a faint, beautiful sound. Ting-a-ling-ling! It was the sound of bells from the town below.
Flicker opened his eyes. He wasn't tumbling anymore; he was gliding. He danced with the wind, past chimneys puffing out sweet-smelling smoke and past windows glowing with warmth. He landed, not with a thump, but with a gentle poof on something soft and red. It was a little girl's mitten. She was looking up at the sky with a huge smile. From a nearby church, a song began: "Silent night, holy night..." Flicker rested on the warm mitten, no longer trembling. He had been scared of the fall, but it had brought him here, to the beautiful music and sparkling lights of his very first Christmas.
