Coloring page story

CRUNCH, MUNCH, WIGGLE, JIGGLE! Barnaby Bear was happily eating a gingerbread man while hanging a beautiful, delicate glass bird on the tree. "One more twirl!" he boomed, and spun around. WHOOPS! His big, fluffy bottom bumped the branch. CRASH! The beautiful glass bird lay on the floor in three sad pieces. The music stopped. Barnaby's ears flopped down. "Oh, no," he rumbled, his big bear heart sinking. "I broke it." He nudged a piece with his nose. It was his mother's favourite. He didn't try to hide it. He gathered the pieces in his big paws and padded over to his mother, his eyes full of worry. "I was dancing," he mumbled, showing her the broken bird. His mother gave him a warm hug. "Accidents happen, my clumsy dancer," she said softly. "But maybe it's not ruined. Maybe it just needs a new kind of sparkle." She brought out a pot of sticky honey and a jar of silver glitter. Carefully, Barnaby dabbed honey on the broken edges and pressed them together. Then, he painted the honey-seams with glitter. Puff! The cracks were now sparkling silver lines. The bird wasn't the same. It was new. It was a kintsugi bird, more beautiful for having been broken and fixed with love. Barnaby hung it back on the tree. It was a reminder that even mistakes could be made to sparkle.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The Round & Soft Cartoon style makes the large bear character feel friendly and safe. The simple shapes and large coloring areas for the bear's body and the rug are ideal for the developing motor skills of children aged 3-5.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Look at Barnaby being so careful! Let's help him. What color is your cuddly bear going to be? You can make the bird any color you wish. See the wiggly lines on the bird? That's where he fixed it! You could use your shiniest, most sparkly crayon or marker there to show how he made it beautiful again. Maybe you can even add glitter with a grown-up's help!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

To make the 'glitter' part extra fun, print this on heavy paper or cardstock. After coloring, an adult can help apply a thin line of school glue over the 'cracks' and sprinkle on some real glitter for a 3D effect. Let it dry completely!

Recommended Tools

Fat crayons and washable broad-tip markers are fantastic for filling in the large areas like Barnaby's fur. For the special 'cracks' on the bird, a glitter glue pen (with supervision) or a metallic crayon would be a magical touch.
