Coloring page story

Finley the Groundhog loved his shadow. He thought it was his best friend. When Finley wiggled, his shadow wiggled. When Finley waved, his shadow waved back!

On Groundhog Day, Finley poked his head out of his burrow. The sun was shining, and there was his friend, long and dark on the snow.

"Hello, Shadow!" Finley chirped.

He did a little hop. Shadow did a little hop. He touched his nose to the ground. Shadow touched its nose to the ground, too. Finley giggled. He wasn't scared! He played with his friend for a minute, then waved goodbye. "See you in six weeks, Shadow!" he said, before snuggling back into his warm bed for one last nap.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The design is excellent for ages 3-5. The round, soft shapes are very approachable and friendly, which is crucial for a story that frames a shadow as a 'friend' instead of something scary. The simple, mirrored poses provide a clear visual for learning about how shadows work. The large, open spaces for the snow and Finley himself are easy for little hands to fill with color.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Hi there! Finley is playing with his best friend, his shadow. Let's give him some color! You can make Finley a soft brown color. His friend, the shadow, is usually dark, so maybe you can use a black or a dark grey crayon for that shape. Look, they are matching! The sun gave Finley his friend, so let's color the sun a nice, bright yellow. Have fun playing with Finley on this special Groundhog Day!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print on standard 8.5x11 inch paper for an easy at-home activity. Ensure your printer's settings are on 'black and white' to get the best, crispest lines for Finley and his shadow friend. A clean print will make this Groundhog Day lesson on shadows even clearer for your child.

Recommended Tools

Crayons are perfect for this page, allowing kids to practice staying within the bold lines. Using a black marker for the shadow can create a nice, solid contrast to a crayon-colored Finley. This mix of tools can make the concept of the solid shadow even more clear and fun.
