Coloring page story

It wasn't a shadow that scared little Pip. It was the wind. WHOOOOOOSH! it howled around his burrow.

Pip shivered under his blanket of leaves. He did not want to go out. But he knew everyone was waiting. He took a deep breath and crept to the door.

He poked just the tippy-top of his head out. A big gust of wind blew his whiskers back. WHOOSH! It was so loud! Pip squeaked and popped right back in. He didn't see the sun. He didn't see his shadow. He only heard the wind.

"Too windy!" he decided. "That means six more weeks of cozy, quiet napping. No whooshing allowed in my burrow!"

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

This design is great for ages 3-5. The focus on a single, expressive face is easy for a child to connect with. The simple 'whoosh' lines are a clear and fun visual representation of an invisible force like wind, which is a great early learning concept. The composition is extremely simple, with the large area of Pip's head being the main coloring section.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Brrr, it's so windy for poor Pip! Can you see how the wind is blowing his whiskers back? Let's color him in. You can make Pip a warm, cozy brown. The big curvy lines are the wind! You could color them light blue or grey, or maybe even trace them with your finger to feel the 'whoosh'! It's a very different kind of Groundhog Day for Pip!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print this on standard copy paper. The beauty of this page is its simplicity and motion. Ensure your printer has enough black ink to make the motion lines and Pip's outlines bold and clear, which is key to showing the action on this unique Groundhog Day.

Recommended Tools

Markers are great for tracing the 'whoosh' lines to make them stand out. Crayons are perfect for filling in Pip's furry head. This is also a fun page to add stickers to—maybe some leaf or star stickers being 'blown' across the page by the wind.
