Middle: One afternoon, he saw something strange. There was a snowman in the middle of the field, but it looked sad. Its carrot nose was crooked, its pebble mouth was a frown, and one of its stick arms had fallen off. Frankie felt a pang of sympathy for the lonely-looking snowman. He walked over cautiously. “Hello,” he gobbled softly. The snowman, of course, didn’t answer. Frankie decided the snowman needed cheering up. He found the fallen stick-arm and, with a lot of effort, managed to push it back into place. He nudged the carrot nose with his head until it was straight. Then, he rearranged the pebbles into a happy smile.

Ending: He stood back and admired his work. The snowman looked much happier. Just then, little Lily, who had built the snowman, ran outside. “Oh! My snowman looks so cheerful now!” she exclaimed. She saw Frankie standing proudly beside it. She knelt down. “Did you fix him, Frankie? You made him happy.” She gave Frankie a gentle stroke on his back. From that day on, Lily was Frankie’s special friend. She would bring him treats and tell him stories while sitting beside the snowman. Frankie learned that sometimes, the best way to make a friend is to first be a friend, even to a snowman.
