Character: Tom was a very shy turkey. He loved music, but his own gobble-gobble-WOBBLE sound made him blush. He was motivated by a desire to join in, but held back by his fear.

Beginning: The farm animals decided to go Christmas caroling for the horses in the stable. The ducks quacked “Jingle Bells,” the cows mooed “Silent Night,” and the little birds chirped a cheerful tune. Tom hid behind a hay bale, tapping his foot to the rhythm. He wanted to sing so badly, but he was sure his voice was too silly. “They’ll all laugh,” he worried to himself.

Middle: As the animals started to sing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” a big, blustery wind began to blow. WHOOOOOSH! It blew so hard that the animals’ soft quacks and moos were whisked away. The horses in the stable couldn't hear a thing! The caroling was a disaster. Everyone felt disappointed. “The wind is too loud!” cried a little lamb.

Ending: Tom saw how sad everyone was. He took a deep, shaky breath. He thought about how much he loved the song. Closing his eyes, he opened his beak and let out the biggest, deepest, most powerful sound he had. “GOBBLE-WOBBLE-GOBBLE!” It wasn't a quiet sound. It was a loud, rumbling, happy bass note that cut right through the wind. The other animals stopped, surprised. Then the pig started oinking along with the rhythm, and the cow added a low moo. Tom's deep gobble became the beat for the whole carol! The horses heard it and whinnied with delight. Tom wasn't shy anymore. He had found his special part in the song, and he learned that every voice, no matter how different, can help make beautiful music.
