Coloring page story
Beginning:
Rumble the Dump Truck woke up on the wrong side of the garage. CLUNK! He bumped his fender on the door. "Ouch!" he grumbled. It started to rain, and the drops went pitter-patter-PLONK on his roof, which he did not like. By the time he got to the construction site, Rumble was in a very grumpy mood. His engine rumbled a grumpy grumble-rumble-grumble.
Middle:
"Good morning, Rumble!" chirped Connie the Crane, swinging her long arm in a happy wave. Rumble just grunted. Beeper the Bulldozer wanted to play "Push the Pebbles," his favorite game. "Not today," growled Rumble. He saw a pile of big, heavy rocks he had to move. HMPH! He backed up—BEEP, BEEP, BEEP—and dumped the rocks with a loud CRASH! that made the little cars jump. He felt cross and heavy, just like the rocks in his bed. He didn't want to play; he just wanted to grumble.
Ending:
Connie the Crane swung over gently. She didn't say anything at first. She just lowered her hook and picked up a single, beautiful, smooth blue stone from Rumble's pile. She polished it on her side and then placed it carefully on the dashboard inside Rumble's cab, right where he could see it. Rumble blinked. The stone shone, even in the gray rain. "Sometimes a grumpy day just needs a little something shiny," Connie said softly. Rumble looked at the stone, then at Connie. His grumpy rumble softened. A little smile touched his big front grille. "Thank you," he rumbled, and this time, it sounded warm, like a happy cat's purr. The day still felt a little gray, but inside, Rumble felt a tiny bit of sunshine.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
This style is excellent for ages 3-5. The exaggerated, clear expressions on the truck's face help children identify and name emotions like 'grumpy' and 'surprised'. The large, blocky shapes of the construction vehicles are satisfying to color and easy for small hands to navigate.
Coloring Page Coloring Instructions
Oh, look! Connie is giving Rumble a beautiful, shiny stone to make him feel better. What color is Rumble the Dump Truck today? Maybe a bright yellow or a strong gray? And what special color will you make the shiny stone? You can also color the raindrops blue and the big pile of rocks brown and gray. Let's give Rumble a happy scene!
Coloring Page Printing Tips
Print on a sturdy sheet of paper. Since construction vehicles have many large, flat areas, this page is great for practicing staying within the lines. Using your printer's standard or 'draft' setting is fine, as the bold lines will still be very clear for your little artist.
Recommended Tools
Crayons and colored pencils work wonderfully here. Coloring the large body of the truck with a crayon and then using a colored pencil for the smaller details, like the special stone or the raindrops, can be great practice for using different tools.
