Coloring page story

Beginning: The sun felt like a warm blanket on Leo’s long, speckled neck. Today was the Great Meadow Picnic! Mama Stego had packed everyone’s favorite food. For Leo, the best treat of all was his sweet-sap leaf-wrap, gooey and delicious. He patted the side of the big wicker basket. "My wrap is safe in there," he hummed.

Middle: When they reached the perfect picnic spot by the bubbly brook, Papa Rex spread out the big fern-leaf blanket. THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. Trixie giggled, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole tree!" Mama Stego opened the basket. She handed out the fern-fries and the rock-cakes. But when she looked for Leo's special treat, her face grew puzzled. "Oh, dear," she said softly. "It's gone." Leo's chin began to wobble. His sweet-sap leaf-wrap was missing! Tears welled in his big, gentle eyes.

Ending: "Don't you worry, little one," boomed Papa Rex. "We are a family of detectives!" Trixie put on her thinking face. "Leo, where were you hopping just now?" she asked. Leo pointed a shaky claw towards a patch of bouncy, orange mushrooms he’d been playing on. The family went over to look. And there, tucked beside a big, bouncy cap, was the lost leaf-wrap, perfectly safe. Leo let out a happy squeak! He gave his big sister a nuzzle to say thank you, and as the family finally sat down to eat, his sweet-sap leaf-wrap tasted like the best adventure ever.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The 'Round & Soft Cartoon' style with its simple, curved lines and lack of sharp angles is very appealing and non-intimidating for 3-5 year olds. The large, distinct areas for each character and object help develop fine motor control without causing frustration.

Coloring Page Printing Tips

For best results, print this page on medium-weight cardstock to prevent markers from bleeding through. Standard letter-sized paper works well for crayons. Set your printer to a high-quality 'black and white' or 'grayscale' setting to get the crispest lines.
