Coloring page story

Beginning: The family arrived at a crossroads. To the left was a bright, sunny meadow full of sweet-smelling flowers. To the right was a cool, shady grove next to a gentle waterfall. SPLISH, SPLASH. "The meadow!" declared Trixie. "We can run and play in the sun!"

Middle: "No!" said Leo, who felt a bit hot. "The waterfall! It's cool and I like the splashy sound." Trixie stomped her foot. "But the sun is cheerful! The grove is too dark." Leo drooped his long neck. "But the meadow is too hot! The shade is comfy." They stood on opposite paths, frowning at each other. The picnic basket sat right in the middle. It looked like the picnic might not happen at all.

Ending: Mama Stego smiled a wise, gentle smile. "I have an idea," she said. "Why don't we have our main lunch in Leo's cool, shady grove? And then, we can take our berry-tarts for dessert over to Trixie's sunny meadow." Trixie and Leo looked at each other. Lunch in the cool shade and dessert in the warm sun? It was a perfect plan! They learned that compromising didn't mean losing; it meant everyone got to be happy.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The split-scene composition is a simple storytelling device that 3-5 year olds can understand. It visually represents the concept of compromise. The large, defined areas—the shady grove and the sunny meadow—allow children to use different color palettes and practice coloring in distinct sections.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

What a perfect idea from Mama Stego! We can color both places. Let's make the waterfall side cool and shady with blues and greens. And for Trixie's meadow, we can use bright, sunny colors like yellow, orange, and pink for the flowers! It's two coloring pages in one!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

For best results, print this page on medium-weight cardstock to prevent markers from bleeding through. Standard letter-sized paper works well for crayons. Set your printer to a high-quality 'black and white' or 'grayscale' setting to get the crispest lines.

Recommended Tools

This page is great for using two different sets of tools! Maybe crayons for the soft, sunny meadow and markers for the splashy, cool waterfall. This helps children think about texture and color choice. Have fun exploring both spots!
