Coloring page story

Sammy the sunflower felt droopy. His big yellow face wasn't looking at the sun. It was looking at the ground. The soil was dry and crumbly. "Oh, I'm so thirsty," he whispered.

Just then, a little white cloud floated by. Poof! The cloud saw sad Sammy. "He looks thirsty," the little cloud thought.

Twist: The cloud was very shy and had never rained all by itself before. It took a big, deep breath... whooosh... and squeezed with all its might!

Plip. Plop. Pitter-patter. Tiny, happy raindrops fell all around Sammy. Sammy drank up the water with his long roots. Gulp, gulp, gulp! His petals perked up, bright and yellow again. He turned his face to the sun and smiled. "Thank you, little cloud!" he beamed.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

Perfect for ages 3-5, this design uses large, simple shapes and thick outlines that match the developing motor skills of young children. The personified, friendly characters (a sad flower, a shy cloud) make abstract concepts like weather and thirst relatable and understandable for this age group.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Hello little artist! Look at Sammy the sunflower smiling! What happy color will you make his big face and petals? Yellows and oranges are wonderful for sunflowers! And what about the kind little cloud? You can leave it white, or maybe give it a soft blue or gray outline. The raindrops would look lovely in a bright blue. Don't forget the green stem and leaves!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

For best results, print on sturdy paper like cardstock to prevent markers from bleeding through. Use your printer's 'standard' or 'draft' setting to save ink, as the bold lines will still be very clear. Printing this page is the first step to enjoying a wonderful Sunflowers coloring adventure!

Recommended Tools

Chunky crayons are perfect for little hands to grip and fill in the large spaces. Washable markers are also a great choice for vibrant colors. Encourage your child to try staying inside the thick black lines, but remember that the most important thing is to have fun expressing themselves!
