Coloring page story
Beginning:
Oatie was a simple oatmeal-raisin cookie, round and warm. She wasn't fancy, but she was observant. From the dessert table, she saw something terrible happen. The family's new puppy, Barnaby, had snatched the little girl's favorite teddy bear, Patches, and dragged him under the Christmas tree, growling playfully. The little girl, Lily, was upstairs and didn't know. Oatie knew Patches was in danger of being chewed! She had to save him.
Middle:
This was no mere escape; this was a rescue mission. Oatie rolled off the table and made for the tree. Barnaby, the puppy, was a furry mountain with sharp teeth. Grrrr-wuff! he went, shaking Patches. Oatie had to create a distraction. She bravely rolled right in front of Barnaby’s nose. The puppy stopped, surprised. A cookie! He forgot all about the bear and gave a happy YIP! He started chasing Oatie. Pitter-patter, pitter-patter went Oatie’s cookie-feet, with the puppy's wet nose right behind her. She led him on a chase around the living room, away from the tree.
End:
Lily came downstairs. "Barnaby! What are you doing?" She saw the chase and laughed, scooping up the puppy. Then she saw Patches, safe but slobbery, under the tree. And next to him, panting if a cookie could pant, was Oatie. Lily understood immediately. "You saved Patches!" she whispered in awe. She rescued Oatie from the puppy's attention and wiped a bit of dog drool off her. "You are the bravest cookie in the world." She didn't eat Oatie. She put her and Patches the bear together on her bedside table to stand guard all year long. Oatie learned that you don't have to be fancy to be a hero.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The 'Kid Superhero' interpretation is fun for 6-8 year olds, framing the simple cookie as a hero. The objects—a teddy bear, a cookie, a lamp—are familiar and have large, simple surfaces to color. This encourages creativity in a comfortable, low-stress design.
