Coloring page story
Beginning:
Grumble-Bell was a bell-shaped lemon cookie with a sour expression drawn in yellow icing. He hated the noise of Christmas. Jingle this, jingle that! Carols, laughter, wrapping paper tearing—it was all too much! "I wish it were quiet," he grumbled to a cheerful-looking reindeer cookie, who just winked a red-hot candy eye. Grumble-Bell decided he would escape to the one place in the house that was always silent: the study.
Middle:
He slid off the platter and made a dash for it. The journey was perilous. He had to cross the "Roaring River" of the hallway while people walked by with loud, stomping feet. STOMP! STOMP! He hid behind a poinsettia plant, his sour little face puckered with stress. He finally squeezed under the study door. Ahhh, silence. It was dark and peaceful. He nestled behind a big leather-bound book and felt, for the first time, content.
End:
He must have fallen asleep, because he was woken by a soft light. The door opened, and Grandpa came in, holding a single candle. He sat in his big chair with a heavy sigh. He looked lonely. He picked up a photo from his desk of Grandma, who wasn't here this Christmas. "Oh, Mary," he whispered. "I miss your Christmas cheer." Grumble-Bell felt a strange crumbling sensation in his chest. The quiet he wanted so badly felt sad now. With all his might, he rolled off the bookshelf and landed with a soft pat on Grandpa's lap. Grandpa looked down, surprised. He saw the sour-faced little cookie. He chuckled, a low, gentle sound. "Well, hello there, little grump. Are you hiding from the noise, too?" He picked Grumble-Bell up and held him. "You know, maybe a little noise isn't so bad." He carried Grumble-Bell back to the living room. The sound of his family's laughter didn't seem so loud anymore. It sounded like love.
