Coloring page story
Best friends Lily and Noah were on a mission: to find the most perfect, giant pinecone for the top of their classroom’s Christmas tree. They ventured deeper into the snowy woods than ever before, their laughter echoing among the tall pines.
“This one!” said Noah, holding up a huge, spiky pinecone.
“It’s perfect!” agreed Lily. But when they turned to go back, every tree looked the same. The sun was sinking, turning the snow a pale, dusky blue. They were lost.
A little knot of fear tightened in Lily’s stomach. Noah tried to be brave, but his bottom lip was trembling. Tucked in Lily’s pocket was a gift her aunt had given her, a dark blue bell with tiny silver stars painted on it. “It’s a Guiding Bell,” her aunt had said. “It helps you find your way.”
With shivering fingers, Lily took it out and rang it. KLINK-KLINK-KLINK.
It didn't create a magical path or whisper directions. For a moment, nothing happened. They were still lost. But then Noah looked up. “Lily, look!”
High above the trees, one star was twinkling with an impossible brightness, shining like a tiny diamond on dark blue velvet. It was the North Star. Lily’s father had taught her that the North Star always shows you which way is north. Their village was south of the woods.
“If that’s north,” Lily said, her mind racing, “then our village is… that way!” She pointed in the opposite direction.
Holding hands, they used the bright, steady star as their guide. The bell’s magic wasn’t to do the work for them, but to help them see the guide that was there all along.
They stumbled out of the woods right behind their own houses, just as their parents were coming out to call for them. They were safe, and they had the most perfect pinecone. They had been scared, but they had found their way home together, guided by a bell, a star, and each other.
