Coloring page story

Flicker was a young reindeer with a problem. All the other young reindeer had two strong, proud antlers that pointed to the sky. Flicker had one strong antler, and one that… drooped. It hung down by the side of his face like a wilted flower. The other reindeer sometimes teased him, calling him “Lopsy.”

He hated his droopy antler. On the night before the Great Sleigh-Guiding Test, he wandered away from the herd, feeling hopeless. He found a small, glowing bell hanging from a birch tree. “A wishing bell!” he whispered.

He closed his eyes tight and made his wish with all his heart. “I wish my antler was straight and strong like everyone else’s!” He rang the bell. SHIMMER-SHINE!

A warm light pulsed from the bell, but his antler didn’t straighten. Instead, his droopy antler began to glow! It shone with a soft, golden light, as bright and steady as a lantern.

Flicker was horrified. “No! I wanted to be normal, not weirder!” Just then, a blizzard hit. Snow swirled so thick and fast that Flicker couldn’t see his own hooves. The wind howled, and he heard the panicked calls of the other young reindeer. They were lost!

“We can’t see! Which way is home?” one cried. Flicker’s heart pounded. Then he looked at his glowing antler. The light cut through the swirling snow, making a clear, golden path on the ground in front of him. He wasn’t lopsy anymore. He was a beacon.

“Follow me!” he called out, his voice full of newfound confidence. He lowered his head, and his glowing antler lit the way. He led all the lost reindeer safely back to the stables.

When Santa saw him, he didn't see a droopy antler. He saw a guiding light. Flicker learned that the very thing that made him different was the very thing that made him special.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The action-oriented scene and clear 'superpower' (the glowing antler) are very exciting for 6-8-year-olds. The use of simple sparkle shapes is a fun, easy way for them to color 'magic light', and the character designs are simple and friendly.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Flicker is a hero! Let's show how bright his special antler is. You can use your brightest yellow or a glittery gold crayon for the antler and the sparkles around it. What color are the other reindeer? You can make them all different shades of brown. For the swirly snow, you could trace the lines with a light blue or even a silver crayon to make it look like a real blizzard!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Print this page on white paper to make the colors you add really pop, especially the bright color you choose for Flicker's glowing antler. Ensure your printer is set to a standard or high quality to keep the swirling snow lines from looking blurry.

Recommended Tools

A yellow or gold glitter crayon or glitter glue pen would be perfect and extra fun for the glowing antler! Use regular crayons or colored pencils for the reindeer fur. A light blue marker can be used to trace the swirl lines for the blizzard effect.
