Coloring page story
Flicker was a young reindeer with a problem. All the other young reindeer had two strong, proud antlers that pointed to the sky. Flicker had one strong antler, and one that… drooped. It hung down by the side of his face like a wilted flower. The other reindeer sometimes teased him, calling him “Lopsy.”
He hated his droopy antler. On the night before the Great Sleigh-Guiding Test, he wandered away from the herd, feeling hopeless. He found a small, glowing bell hanging from a birch tree. “A wishing bell!” he whispered.
He closed his eyes tight and made his wish with all his heart. “I wish my antler was straight and strong like everyone else’s!” He rang the bell. SHIMMER-SHINE!
A warm light pulsed from the bell, but his antler didn’t straighten. Instead, his droopy antler began to glow! It shone with a soft, golden light, as bright and steady as a lantern.
Flicker was horrified. “No! I wanted to be normal, not weirder!”
Just then, a blizzard hit. Snow swirled so thick and fast that Flicker couldn’t see his own hooves. The wind howled, and he heard the panicked calls of the other young reindeer. They were lost!
“We can’t see! Which way is home?” one cried.
Flicker’s heart pounded. Then he looked at his glowing antler. The light cut through the swirling snow, making a clear, golden path on the ground in front of him. He wasn’t lopsy anymore. He was a beacon.
“Follow me!” he called out, his voice full of newfound confidence. He lowered his head, and his glowing antler lit the way. He led all the lost reindeer safely back to the stables.
When Santa saw him, he didn't see a droopy antler. He saw a guiding light. Flicker learned that the very thing that made him different was the very thing that made him special.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The action-oriented scene and clear 'superpower' (the glowing antler) are very exciting for 6-8-year-olds. The use of simple sparkle shapes is a fun, easy way for them to color 'magic light', and the character designs are simple and friendly.
