Coloring page story

Brothers Sam and Tom were a pot of bubbling, grumbling stew on Christmas Eve. “You’re on my side of the sofa!” Sam complained, shoving Tom with his foot. “Well, your feet are cold!” Tom grumbled back, pulling the big, fluffy blanket all to himself. “Get your own blanket.”

Their argument grew louder and louder until their father came in, holding a strange, two-handled bell. “This is the Empathy Bell,” he said calmly. “You will each hold a handle and ring it together.”

Sam and Tom rolled their eyes but did as they were told. They gripped the wooden handles and gave the bell a hard shake. DONG!

A weird, fizzy feeling zipped through Sam. Suddenly, his toes felt like tiny icicles, even though he was wearing fuzzy socks. He shivered. At the same time, Tom felt a wave of cozy warmth spread all the way to his nose, even though parts of him were sticking out of the blanket. He felt… comfortable.

“Hey!” Sam said, wiggling his freezing toes. “This is how you feel? It’s awful!” “And I feel all warm and snuggly,” Tom said, confused. “This is how you feel?”

They stared at each other. Sam understood why Tom had wanted the whole blanket. And Tom understood that Sam wasn’t just being annoying—his feet were genuinely cold.

Without another word, Tom unfolded the blanket and draped half of it over Sam’s legs. Sam shuffled closer, sharing his warmth. The fizzy feeling disappeared, and they were just themselves again, but different. The grumbling stew had turned into warm, quiet cocoa. They sat together, sharing the blanket, watching the Christmas lights twinkle. The bell had done more than make them feel things; it had helped them understand.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The simple composition and focus on a positive social interaction are ideal for 6-8-year-olds. The large, uncluttered shapes of the sofa and blanket are easy for them to color, and the peaceful theme is comforting and easy to understand.
