Coloring page story
Pip the mouse was scared of everything. The tick-tock of the grandfather clock. The creak of the floorboards. But most of all, he was scared of the giant, fluffy housecat named Ginger.
On Christmas Eve, a delicious tragedy struck. A piece of gingerbread man—a whole leg!—had fallen from the kitchen counter onto the floor. It lay in the open, a golden treasure in the middle of a dangerous land. Pip’s family was hungry.
“I’m too scared,” squeaked Pip’s brother.
“The cat is sleeping by the fire,” whispered his mother. “But what if she wakes?”
Pip’s little mouse heart hammered in his chest. But he couldn’t stand to see his family hungry. Tucked under a loose floorboard was a family heirloom: a tiny brass bell, no bigger than a pea. Legend said it was a Bell of Bravery.
Pip took a deep breath, picked up the bell, and shook it. It didn’t roar like a lion. It made the tiniest sound: a soft tinkle-jingle. But that sound didn’t echo in the room; it echoed inside Pip. A warm, fizzy courage spread through his whiskers and down to his tail.
He wasn’t unafraid—he could still see Ginger’s giant, twitching ear—but he was determined.
He scurried out from the wall. Tinkle-jingle. He dashed past the scary, dark space under the table. Tinkle-jingle. He reached the gingerbread leg. As he grabbed it, Ginger’s eye cracked open!
Pip’s fear screamed, but the brave jingle in his heart was stronger. He didn’t run. He stood perfectly still, just like a gingerbread-colored statue. Ginger blinked, yawned a giant, toothy yawn, and closed her eyes again.
Pip dragged the crumb all the way back to his family. They feasted like kings. Pip was still a small mouse, but tonight, he had felt as big as a lion. The bell’s magic wasn't in making the world less scary, but in making him brave enough to face it.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The dramatic perspective and clear, character-focused action are very exciting for 6-8-year-olds. The anthropomorphic style gives Pip relatable human emotions, and the simplified forms make the potentially scary cat look like a big, fluffy obstacle rather than a real threat.
